AI Content Policy
Plenty of websites are vague about where AI ends and people begin. This page draws that line clearly for Nexsus Space, so you know how much weight to give anything you read here.

The short version
| Part of the site | How it is produced |
|---|---|
| Calculator results | Fixed formulas in code. No AI involved. |
| Calculator explanations and guides | Written and edited by people, researched against industry standards. |
| AI assistants (5 tools) | Generated by an AI model when you press the button. Clearly labelled. |
| Fallback answers in the AI tools | Written by people in advance, used when AI is unavailable. |
AI assistance was used while drafting and editing parts of this site. We are not going to claim every word was typed from scratch by a human, because that would not be true. What matters is that a person is responsible for every published page, and the factual claims are checked against the sources named below.
Calculators never use AI
This is the most important thing on this page.
Every calculator result comes from a fixed formula written in code, not from an AI model. Multiplication, unit conversion, stitch counts, yardage estimates and pricing arithmetic are all deterministic: the same inputs always produce the same output.
We do this deliberately. Language models are not reliable at arithmetic, and a crocheter planning a blanket deserves a number that is reproducible and checkable. The formula behind each tool is published on that tool's own page under "The formula", so you can verify our working by hand.
The formulas are also covered by an automated test suite that runs on every build. It checks worked examples, boundary values such as zero and negative numbers, and invalid input.
Where AI is used
Five tools use AI, and only when you actively ask them to:
- AI Crochet Project Planner
- AI Crochet Troubleshooter
- AI Yarn Substitution Assistant
- AI Crochet Pattern Assistant
- AI Crochet Colour Palette Generator
These run on Cloudflare Workers AI. Nothing is sent to a model when you simply load a page; the request only happens when you submit the form.
Every AI answer carries the notice: *"AI-generated information may contain mistakes. Verify important pattern, gauge, sizing and safety decisions."*
What the AI assistants will not do
The assistants are instructed to:
- Stay on crochet, yarn and fibre-craft topics, and decline anything else.
- Never claim to be a certified instructor, or a medical, legal or financial adviser.
- Describe sizes and yarn amounts as estimates, and recommend a gauge swatch when size matters.
- Mention safety for items intended for babies and children under 3, where embroidered eyes are safer than plastic safety eyes and small parts are a choking hazard.
These are instructions to a language model, not guarantees. A model can still get things wrong, which is exactly why the disclaimer appears with every answer.
When AI is unavailable
Our Workers AI allocation is limited, and an AI service can always have an outage. Rather than show an error, each assistant falls back to a deterministic answer written by a person in advance.
When that happens you will see a note saying the answer came from our built-in guidance instead of the AI. The content is still useful, it just was not generated for your specific question.
The calculators are unaffected by any of this and keep working normally.
What happens to what you type
When you use an AI assistant, the text you enter is sent to our server and on to the AI model so it can produce an answer.
- We do not store your conversations. Nothing you type into an AI tool is written to a database or kept after the response is returned.
- Do not enter personal, private, confidential or sensitive information. This is general crochet help, not a private channel.
- Requests are rate limited per visitor to prevent abuse.
See the privacy policy for the full picture.
How we check AI-assisted writing
Where AI assisted with drafting, the published result was reviewed by a person against primary sources before publication. Specifically:
- Yarn weights, hook sizes, head circumferences, abbreviations and chart symbols are checked against the Craft Yarn Council standards.
- Where published sources disagree, such as several older UK hook sizes, the article says so rather than presenting one figure as settled.
- Where no standard exists, such as blanket dimensions, the article says that too.
If you find something wrong, our corrections policy explains how to report it and what we do about it.
