Advertising Policy

Advertising is how a free site with no accounts and no paywall pays for itself. This page explains how we intend to run it, and the limits we put on ourselves.

Last updated October 5, 2026

Advertising is not currently running on this site. No ad network is configured and no advertising scripts load. This policy describes how advertising will work when it is enabled.

Who serves the ads

When advertising is enabled, ads are served by Google AdSense. Advertisers bid through Google's systems; we do not choose individual advertisers, and we do not sell ad space directly.

Ads only load after you allow the advertising category in our cookie banner. If you reject it, no advertising script is requested at all. See the cookie policy for what that involves.

Where ads can appear, and where they cannot

We hold ourselves to placement rules that go beyond "don't break the policy":

Ads may appear:

  • Between sections of an article, where you have finished reading one idea and started another.
  • In the sidebar of a tool or article page on large screens.

Ads will never appear:

  • Above a calculator, or between a calculator's inputs and its result. The thing you came for always comes first.
  • Beside or immediately next to buttons, inputs or navigation, where a mis-tap could land on an ad.
  • As a pop-up, pop-under, or anything that covers the page you are reading.
  • As an interstitial you have to dismiss before reading.
  • Disguised as site content, navigation or a download link.

Every ad is labelled "Advertisements", which is one of the two labels Google permits, and each slot reserves its height before loading so the page does not jump while you are reading.

Advertising does not influence what we write

Editorial content and advertising are kept separate.

  • No advertiser sees, reviews or approves our articles before publication.
  • No advertiser can pay to be recommended in a guide, or to change a calculator's output.
  • We do not write articles whose purpose is to create space for ads.
  • When we name a brand, it is because it is genuinely relevant, not because of a commercial relationship.

Our yarn and hook guidance is based on published industry standards, not on who advertises.

We currently publish no sponsored content and no paid placements.

If that ever changes, any sponsored or paid article will be labelled clearly at the top, before the content, not buried at the bottom.

Affiliate links are covered separately in our affiliate disclosure.

Ad blockers are fine

If you use an ad blocker, the site will keep working normally. We do not detect blockers, nag you about them, or lock content behind disabling one.

Every calculator runs in your browser and does not depend on advertising being present.

Reporting a problem with an ad

If you see an ad on this site that is misleading, offensive, breaks the placement rules above, or behaves badly, please tell us through the contact page.

Include the page you were on and, if you can, a screenshot. We can block individual advertisers and ad categories through our AdSense settings, and we will investigate anything reported.
